When will the work start?

Construction started in August 2020 and is programmed for completion by the end of 2025.

How was the public consulted about the project?

Under the OPW’s CFRAMS project, there was a series of public consultation from 2013 to 2014, to help determine the best option for managing flooding from the Morell River. This included a public information day on 23rd October 2014, website-based consultation and ongoing direct correspondence with stakeholders. During that phase of the project, 98 submissions and responses were received from members of the public and organisations during the consultation period.

When Kildare County Council secured funding for the development of the Flood Management Scheme, it engaged with the Elected Members and directly impacted households, landowners and businesses and a public information day was held on 1st February 2017 in Killeen Golf Club to inform the public on the progress of the Scheme.

Will there be any further public consultation?

• The consultation phase concluded with An Bord Pleanála’s statutory public consultation in 2017.
• However, those directly impacted premises will be engaged with by the County Council and its project team in advance of works commencing in their vicinity.
• Kildare County Council will continue to engage with the public, to address any issues or concerns raised at all times throughout project delivery, including one-to-one as well as on the phone, email and through website updates.
• Kildare County Council will maintain this project website (www.morellfms.ie) and provide regular updates to notify the public of the project works.
• During construction a liaison officer will be available to engage with the public and provide updates.

Who is funding the scheme?

The scheme is being funded by the OPW and delivered by Kildare County Council.

How will noise and traffic be managed during construction?

Any potential impacts to human health and the environment, including traffic and noise, are carefully analysed and measures to manage and mitigate against them are outlined in the Environmental Impact Assessment Report (EIAR).

A Traffic Management Plan will also be prepared to minimise impact and optimise safety for the local community and existing environment. A liaison officer will be appointed during construction phase to deal with any public queries and the website will be updated regularly.
